Day 32 of Searching the Psalms

Please share your thoughts in the comments below each day so that we can
learn and grow together as we seek to know God and live justly.

Psalm 32 (ERV)

1 It is a great blessing
when people are forgiven for the wrongs they have done,
when their sins are erased.
2 It is a great blessing
when the Lord says they are not guilty,
when they don’t try to hide their sins.

3 Lord, I prayed to you again and again,
but I did not talk about my sins.
So I only became weaker and more miserable.
4 Every day you made life harder for me.
I became like a dry land in the hot summertime. Selah

5 But then I decided to confess my sins to the Lord.
I stopped hiding my guilt and told you about my sins.
And you forgave them all! Selah

6 That is why your loyal followers pray to you while there is still time.
Then when trouble rises like a flood, it will not reach them.
7 You are a hiding place for me.
You protect me from my troubles.
You surround me and protect me,
so I sing about the way you saved me. Selah

8 The Lord says, “I will teach you
and guide you in the way you should live.
I will watch over you and be your guide.
9 Don’t be like a stupid horse or mule that will not come to you
unless you put a bit in its mouth and pull it with reins.”

10 Many pains will come to the wicked,
but the Lord’s faithful love will surround those who trust in him.
11 Good people, rejoice and be very happy in the Lord.
All you who want to do right, rejoice!

  2. Amen and amen, this Psalm is so beautiful, comforting and confirming. I especially treasure these verses:
1 It is a great blessing
when people are forgiven for the wrongs they have done,
    when their sins are erased.
2 It is a great blessing
when the Lord says they are not guilty,

I am in a 12 Step program and this promise of our Lord also assures us that
when we don’t try to hide our sins but humbly ask God to remove our shortcomings, He will.
Praise God for this Psalm today!

  3. I particularly love the "penitential" psalms. They are so full of hope and mercy.

It would be wonderful if the world were full of people "in whose spirit there is no guile" ( vs. 2 of the Douay version).Sadly, being full of guile seems to be a way of life these days. In fact there are many who are proud of their cunning intelligence.

And many sit silent (or feel silenced) and because of this are turning in anguish, feeling as if a thorn were fastened to their bodies or minds (vs 3-4). Why do we wait so long to turn to God?

Though our injustices (whether thoughts, words or actions) are against other people, do we realize that they are also against God, who is love, through and through? I must always try to keep before me, the fact that God loves everyone, yes, EVERYONE, as His child...the good and the bad. Imagine how His heart breaks as he sees one of His beloved children thinking, talking or acting against another of His beloved children!

Yet He is so quick to forgive us even the worst of our sins and to be our refuge if only we will let to Him.
