Day 24 of Searching the Psalms

Psalm 24 (KJV)
1 The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.
3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?
4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.
7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.
This is really a glorious psalm and a personal favorite as it is frequently found in the early morning prayer in The Liturgy of the Hours.
ReplyDeleteIt's the perfect praise psalm for rising in the morning as it seems to swell with every line. I can almost visualize the disciples watching Jesus rise in to the clouds on the day of His Ascension. And it seems to give me a glimpse of "the other side" as the angels shout "Lift high your gates! Grow higher ancient doors!" There is no mention of angels in the psalm, but that's what I imagine. In fact I can almost hear a choir singing Handel's "He is the King of Glory".
It really makes me aspire to be clean of heart and innocent of hands and to truly be a person who seeks the Lords face. Mother Teresa said that we must seek his face in the poorest of the poor. For me, that is not as hard as seeking his face in those who's ways we do not like.
