Day 14 of Searching the Psalms

Please share your thoughts in the comments below each day so that we can
learn and grow together as we seek to know God and live justly.

Psalm 14 (ESV)

1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds;
there is none who does good.

2 The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man,
to see if there are any who understand,
who seek after God.

3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.

4 Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers
who eat up my people as they eat bread
and do not call upon the Lord?

5 There they are in great terror,
for God is with the generation of the righteous.
6 You would shame the plans of the poor,
but the Lord is his refuge.

7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people,
let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

  1. I am just getting a chance to complete my Psalm 14 lesson this evening. I believe this is a must share. Message Bible v2: God sticks his head out of heaven. He looks around. He's looking for someone not stupid - one man, even, God-expectant, just one God-ready woman. Wow! I can picture God looking out of heaven for someone who is not stupid/fool (one who makes an intellectual decision to choose moral perversion as a lifestyle). Can you see the face of a God-expectant man looking towards heaven waiting on God? Just one God-ready woman. Father, let that God-ready woman be me!

  2. Amen! Yes, I was struck by this too. God peering down from heaven, like, a father looking out the 2nd story for his kids and calling for them to come home for dinner. Lord, give me the strength in the afternoons, when I'm tired, to seek you and give my best to my kids who always want to play ball in the heat! lol. Also, Father God, increase my endurance to marathon run after you and your justice in the city.

  3. Do I understand God? No, not always, but I want to.
    Do I seek God? Yes, but not always, though I want to.

    Is my mouth an "open sepulchre" ? (Douay); speaking poison and deceit, cursing and bitterness? Even one of these is enough to bring unhappiness, even destruction to another child of God.

    The Lord is my hope and His mercy endures forever.
