Day 12 of Searching the Psalms
Please share your thoughts in the comments below each day so that we can
learn and grow together as we seek to know God and live justly.
Psalm 12 (TLB)
1 Lord! Help! Godly men are fast disappearing. Where in all the world can dependable men be found? 2 Everyone deceives and flatters and lies. There is no sincerity left.
3-4 But the Lord will not deal gently with people who act like that; he will destroy those proud liars who say, “We will lie to our heart’s content. Our lips are our own; who can stop us?”
5 The Lord replies, “I will arise and defend the oppressed, the poor, the needy. I will rescue them as they have longed for me to do.” 6 The Lord’s promise is sure. He speaks no careless word; all he says is purest truth, like silver seven times refined. 7 O Lord, we know that you will forever preserve your own from the reach of evil men, 8 although they prowl on every side and vileness is praised throughout the land.
His promise is sure.
ReplyDeleteHis words are the purest truth.
He will arise and defend the defenseless.
He will fulfill their longings.
He will protect and preserve, keeping them out of reach from evil.
Arise Lord. Fulfill your words.
Pause and take it in, Fina.
Today my attention is drawn to NKJ and Easy v4: "Our lips are our own - Nobody can tell us what to do! We will say what we like to get what we want." I see this as a problem particularly with Americans. The stance that we are our own person and nobody can tell us what to do. This is why we can't get this virus under control and there is a fight over mask wearing. People are looking at their own individual freedom and not as a community on the whole. This attitude has even filtered into the church. Many churches want to do their own thing, in their own way, without even requiring the wearing of mask for simple protection of each other and their family members. We are acting like we are not "our brother's keeper. But, the good news comes in Message v5: Into the hovels of the poor, Into the dark streets where the homeless groan, God speaks: " I've had enough; I'm on my way to heal the ache in the heart of the wretched." My prayer is that we join God and do what we can to "heal the ache in the hearts of the poor and the homeless." Amen
ReplyDeleteSome days are filled with vain activities and men often deceive themselves with proud words that have nothing to do with seeking truth. Do I always seek the truth?
ReplyDeleteThe truly poor have no time for vanities.
I am not truly poor, but I must try harder to be truly poor in spirit... I know that all I have is a gift from God and that He is the only one who knows the truth of my heart, and the hearts of others. Do my words and actions show this? Before lives can change, hearts must change. Create in me a clean heart, O Lord.
