Day 11 of Searching the Psalms

Please share your thoughts in the comments below each day so that we can
learn and grow together as we seek to know God and live justly.

Psalm 11 (ESV)

1 In the Lord I take refuge;
how can you say to my soul,
“Flee like a bird to your mountain,
2 for behold, the wicked bend the bow;
they have fitted their arrow to the string
to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart;
3 if the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do?”

4 The Lord is in his holy temple;
the Lord's throne is in heaven;
his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.
5 The Lord tests the righteous,
but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.
6 Let him rain coals on the wicked;
fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.
7 For the Lord is righteous;
he loves righteous deeds;
the upright shall behold his face.

Comments

  1. This morning, the grave, ill effects of the pandemic and its socio-economic fall out, especially on people of color, the elderly, and children of color, weighs heavy on my heart. I'm seeking God as my refuge, to be filled with peace and action, to pray and to live "upright", ready to do justice in the streets, with my vote, and at city hall. Lord, you know all the ways I need to grow in being "righteous". Forgive me, Lord, heal me, and help me. Hear my prayers, Lord, for my country.

  2. Verses 4 and 5 remind me of what God is ever mindful of. NKJ: His eyelids test the sons of men; The Lord tests the righteous. The Easy: He carefully watches what people are doing, The Lord watches both good people and wicked people. Message: His eyelids unblinking examining Adam's unruly brood. God is watching all of us in this season. What choices are we the church making and the unchurched. Are we showing loving love and compassion, are we standing up for what is just and right for all people, and we taking care of the widow, the children, the elderly? How are we "Adam's unruly brood" being the salt and light of the world right now? The Message: The bottom's dropped out of the country; good people don't have a chance"? That's how I am feeling these days. The bottom's dropped out of our country and I'm concerned about our children, elderly, and unserved populations of this country. Lord, may we follow your guidance in this season.

  3. Beautifully said, Rev Pastor Carolyn! "He carefully watches what people are doing." Thank you for this great insight.

  4. "In the Lord I put my trust." (Douay) Perhaps this should be the first thing out of my mouth in the morning and the last thing at night, whether or not I have spent my day "on the mountain" or dodging the snares and the arrows.

  5. God is seeing and watching everything on earth. So the evil that I am baffled many churched people chose not to see makes me irate and confused. I am continuing to trust that God will bring his righteousness and truth in our world.
